Anya Belyat-Giuntas seltsame, exzentrische Gesichter und Figuren sind verstörende Verkörperungen traumhafter Halluzinationen, die tiefe, oft verborgene Erinnerungen, Projektionen, Vorstellungen, unerträgliche Erfahrungen und emotionale Krisen widerspiegeln. SECRET GARDEN(s) is the first solo exhibition of Anya Belyat-Giunta at the Petra Seiser Gallery. The artist is known for her emblematic series of small format drawings on perforated cards, «Analytical Engine», started in 2007 with a discovery of the rare support and on-going to this date. For Anya Belyat-Giunta, this series is the vertebral column of her body of work. Over the past two decades in this intimate journal, she has develloped a unique visual language, which nourishes her large to monumental scale works.
The SECRET GARDEN(S) exhibition introduces the wall installations to the artist’s practice. As in Belyat-Giunta’s drawings these wall pieces follow a similar dream-like logique, furthermore, ceramic sculptures and textiles implement the expansion beyond the picture frame into the gallery space.
At the heart of Anya Belyat-Giunta’s intimate garden beats the enigma of existence, she draws a parallel with common biblical reference, the garden of Eden, which she describes through a highly unusual prisma kaledoscope of ambivalent readings. As a result a compilation of layers describing multiple temporalities shows to which point the artist captures the subtile vibrations of multiple parrallel realities. Unlike any other medium drawing has a unique ability of the way of perceiving, partially due to its immediacy, in addition, its close connection to the deep intimacy of psyche. The SECRET GARDEN(s) of Anya Belyat-Giunta’s are intimate journeys into the meandres of collective memory.
Anya Belyat Giunta wurde 1975 in St.Petersburg, Russland geboren. Sie lebt und arbeitet in Lyon, Frankreich. Die Turbulenzen der späten Sowjetzeit zwangen ihre Familie zum Exil: zunächst nach Österreich, dann nach Italien und schließlich in die Vereinigten Staaten, wo sie ihre Teenagerjahre verbrachte. Zeichnen lag schon immer in ihrer Natur und hat Anya auf ihrem lebenslangen Weg begleitet. Sie hat an zahlreichen Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen in Europa, Russland und den Vereinigten Staaten teilgenommen. Im Jahr 2001 erhielt Anya Belyat-Giunta den Charles-Oulmont-Preis der Stiftung Frankreich. 2015 wurde sie für den Partners Drawing Prize des Saint Etienne Modern Art Museum, Frankreich, nominiert. 2018 und 2019 nahm sie an zwei großen Ausstellungen teil, die von Lorand Hegyi im Parkview Museum Singapur kuratiert wurden: „Intriguing Uncertaintes“ und „Disturbing Narratives“. Ihre Arbeiten sind Teil des Frans Masereel Centrum, Belgien, und der Thomas Koerfer Collection, Schweiz.
