Isabella Kohlhuber’s booth concept “We make the rules as we go along” questions the rules of art production by leaving open the space between artistic production and exhibition making – presenting an installation that shows the concepts and tools of its production. Here, the model of an artist’s studio as a performative work is presented inviting the visitors to interact by printing their version of the work.
Kohlhuber’s work revolves around the theme of language, with a focus on the processes of constructing, reading, and interpreting written signs. Over the past fifteen years, she has developed a family of quasi-typographic characters called „Bastards“, which stand on the threshold of image and text. They are composed using a paper collage technique, then digitized and transferred to laser-cut stencils.
